THE outdoor carpet it became an element essential for the terrace and this is not without reason: him different uses in addition to its decorative aspect and the many styles existing templates allow you to always find a template that you like and that fits the vibe of your layout.
In this article I explain the possible roles of a carpet depending on its position on your terrace, I will give it to you tips for choosing the right one and I offer you a selection of models of different styles.
Where to place the carpet on the terrace and why?
Depending on its location on the terrace, a carpet has different uses.
Cover the entire terrace to hide the soil
AND you no longer like the roofing of your terraceReplacing it completely is a very expensive operation.
Cover your terrace or your balcony with one or more carpets allows you to give it as a gift a new look at a lower cost.
Under the garden furniture to divide the spaces
If you have a large terrace with a set of furniture for eating and another for having coffee, placing a carpet under one of the garden furniture will allow you to visually delimit this space AND break the monotony of a large uniform surface.
In this case, the rug must be large enough to frame the entire garden furniture or, for a low living room with sofa, at least enclose the coffee table and the front of the seats.
Below an item to highlight it
You can opt for a small rug and place it under a particular object to highlight it, for example under a coffee table or a decorative object.
In all cases, a carpet allows you to do thisbring a warm and cozy side to your layout and also against the balance of the mineral side of a terrace stone or concrete.
It's also an opportunity toadd color if you wish. I will return to this in detail in the section how to choose the style of your carpet.
How to choose your outdoor carpet?
Here are my tips for choosing the model that is right for you and resistant to the outdoors.
The material
It is essential to choose a carpet model designed for outdoorstherefore it will resist rain and UV rays from the sun.
THE synthetic materials they are the most widespread and resistant to the outside. THE polypropylene it is widely used but there are also versions in polyester, polyamide, PVC or even vinyl.
THE natural materials they are less hardy in the garden. If you still want to turn to natural fibers, choose bamboo or the sea grass and place the mat preferably in a sheltered place.
Dimensions
Obviously you need a carpet whose dimensions are suitable for the place where you want to place it.
I mentioned the different possibilities in the previous part.
Measure or calculate the necessary dimensions according to your plan and stay anyway flexible. It is cheaper to get a rug that is a few centimeters different from the one you want, rather than buying a custom one.
The style
There are several options available to you to choose a style of rug that will fit well in your yard.
- If your garden or terrace already has a well-defined style, keep the same spirit to maintain its harmony.
Furthermore, if you have already purchased cushions with very particular patterns or colours, getting a rug with the same print will be a nice souvenir. - Vice versa you can play the card of split. Be careful though, mixing styles isn't always easy to achieve. Works well with thebohemian atmosphere which is a mix of different trends.
- If your terrace is neutral enough, then you are free to choose and it is the carpet selected that will determine the style of the setup.
This is also a principle I recommend: stick to neutral colors for the terrace covering and garden furniture, and bring style and color with accessories such as cushions and rugs. So, if you end up abandoning it after a few years, it will be economical to just change these decorative elements.
